Australia Day Flag Raising Ceremony 2024

The spirit of Australia was well and truly on show at our flag raising ceremony on 26th January. Around 300 locals ventured out on a very warm morning for the event held at John Benyon Rotary Park.

Julian Leeser MP Federal Member for Berowra, Mark Hodges MP, State Member for Castle Hill, Dr Peter Gangemi, Mayor of Hills Shire Council and Kenthurst Rotary President, Chris Gaskin gave short presentations. The guest speaker was Kenthurst local, Melissa Monteiro who was highly commended as citizen of the year at the recent Hills Shire Council’s Australia Day Awards.
Local students Amiya Raileqe and Jack Romeo from Kenthurst Public School read the poem My Country. Bree Collins from Galston High read Smithy’s Australia Day Poem. Hayley Mathie also from Galston High sang the national anthem whilst David Parada and Joan Bautista from Marion College raised the Australian flag.
Our favourite local singer James McGaw entertained the crowd with 3 typical Aussie songs.
The ceremony was followed by morning tea provided by Kenthurst Rotary. Donations of $375 raised on the day are being donated to the Melanoma Institute Australia. The club will round up the donation to $500.
Thanks to all who attended for your continued support of our club and community.
